This feature is used by administrators to save a lot of time when adding new servers to the system. DCImanager is able to find and add new servers automatically. It is especially useful if tens of machines are to be added.
DCImanager diagnoses a server automatically and sends the retrieved data to the panel. The system gets information on CPU, RAM, number of HDDs and their volumes, and network cards. All what the administrator would have to do is confirm that the collected data is correct, and all the machines found would be added to menu “Servers”.
How it works
• Preliminary, the administrator has to create a temporary network which would be used for assigning temporary IP addresses to new servers. • DCImanager sets up the DHCP server so that all servers that are trying to boot using PXE would be booted with the special server search template. This template runs quick diagnostics and adds servers to menu “Tools” -> “Server search”. • DCImanager searches MAC addresses of server network cards on switch ports, creates necessary connections with switch ports, and determines PDU ports which servers are connected to. • The administrator only has to check the correctness of information collected about a server and send the server to operation by clicking “Approve”.
