Frequently asked questions about SSLs

After domain validation and organization verification, the CA will send certificate files to the technical contact. In order to install an SSL, use our documentation.

In fact you can’t renew an SSL, you can only reissue it. You will need to follow steps similar to the steps you followed when you had first generated your SSL certificate, including domain validation and/or organization verification. However, you won’t need to fill in all the fields.

To reissue an SSL certificate, choose “Renew SSL” in your Client area and pay for it. The Certificate Authority will send you a verification email with the link to validate and approve the certificate. Yes, you can. In order to reissue it you need to generate a CSR in your Client area based on information provided earlier. You can enter it again, however, it must coincide exactly with information you provided during the first order. The Certificate Authority will send you a verification email. Reissuance of RapidSSL is different from other CAs. If you lost your Private key for RapidSSL, contact our Customer care department.

We offer certificates lasting 1, 2 or 3 years depending on their validation type. SSLs valid for a longer period wouldn’t meet security requirements because encryption technology is evolving at great speed. Besides, when you choose 2 or 3 year plans, you can save up to 15-25%. What is more, you won’t have to complete verification every year.
We recommend using HTTPS for your website content including images, tables, scripts, etc. If a website is secured with an SSL but there is any content (an image, for example) served via HTTP - browsers will mark it as not secure. One more reason: your website still runs HTTP and HTTPS. Just redirect HTTP to HTTPS so your visitors could only get access to your website via HTTPS.

Standard SSL certificates secure only one domain name. A domain name is your website name. It is the address where Internet users can access your website. In our case the domain is ispsystem.com. It is made of 2 parts: com, the top-level domain, and ispsystem, the second-level domain.

Subdomain is a part of the main domain. Our subdomains are e.g. my.ispsytem.com and docs.ispsystem.com. A wildcard certificate secures the website domain and all its subdomains. You can add extra subdomains to your wildcard certificate without extra fees.

When you submit your request for a wildcard SSL, it is important to specify the level of the domain:

→ if you enter *.site.ru, a wildcard will secure third-level domains such as shop.site.ru, forum.site.ru, docs.site.ru etc. and it won’t secure fourth-level domains, e.g. *.shop.mysite.ru.
→ if you enter *.shop.mysite.ru, a wildcard will secure all fourth-level domains such as 1.forum.site.ru, 2.forum.site.ru, 3.forum.site.ru etc and it won’t secure fifth-level domains, e.g. *.1.shop.mysite.ru, or third-level domains *.site.ru

It means that if you need to secure both third-level and fourth-level domains, you should purchase two wildcard SSLs and enter correct levels of the domain to be secured.

Today all certificates secure Internationalized Domain Names by default using Punycode. Technically, domain names cannot contain non-Latin characters. Punycode is special encoding used to convert Unicode characters to ASCII: Latin characters, numbers and hyphens.
SGC is only beneficial if the client is still utilizing outdated browsers (from 1990s). So only a few browsers now need SGC, and we do not offer it any more.
Before Google Chrome 56, you needed to look at the details of a certificate by clicking on the Green lock icon. Now you should press Ctrl+Shift+I or open Three Dots Menu and click “More Tools” → “Developer Tools” → "Security"→ "Security Overview" → "View certificate".
It is the financial protection for your customers if they suffer damages and financial loss visiting a website secured by an SSL. The Certificate Authority will pay it in case the SSL was issued to criminals or SSL keys were hacked.
If you have a domain validated SSL, there is nothing you should do. In cases with OV or EV certificates, you have to purchase a new one.
Yes, you can change it in your Client area. You won’t have to buy or reissue your certificate. Update information so that our Customer care department and the CA would have the right data for further orders.
