SNMP trap is an asynchronous message sent by a device when an event occurs. You can monitor equipment health across locations by receiving and processing SNMP traps from the equipment. In the current implementation, only SNMPv1 and SNMPv2 traps are supported.
Monitoring via SNMP traps uses less network traffic than regular equipment polling, as traffic is generated only when events occur.
Enabling SNMP Trap Processing
To enable SNMP trap processing at a location:
- Click the DCImanager logo in the top-left corner of the screen → select the desired location → All Settings . If the All Settings button is not displayed in the settings of the desired location, perform the initial location setup. For details on configuring a location, see the article Location management.
- Activate the Enable SNMP message processing service option.
- Click Apply.
After that, the information from SNMP messages will be displayed on the Grafana dashboard. To view the dashboard, click the SNMP Traps Dashboard in Grafana in the location settings. In the current implementation, trap data is displayed in the OID Name and OID Value parameters on the dashboard.
In the dashboard, SNMP traps are linked to a device by its IP address. If the IP address is reassigned to a different device, previously received SNMP traps from that address will be displayed as messages from the device currently using that IP address.
