Using non-unique IP addresses

You can use the same private IPv4 address for multiple services within a single virtual server plan. For example, if the servers are located in isolated networks and do not conflict with each other technically. To do this, enable the Ignore IP address uniqueness option in the tariff configuration. It disables the uniqueness check of private IPv4 addresses at the BILLmanager level for the "Private IPv4 addresses" add-on.

How it works

If this option is enabled, BILLmanager does not check whether a private IPv4 address is used in other active services. This allows you to assign the same private IP address to different services linked to a tariff with this option enabled.

By default, this option is disabled. If the option is disabled, the platform checks the uniqueness of the address among all active services and blocks the assignment if there is a match. The user will see an error message.

Disabling IP address uniqueness verification:

  • only takes place at the billing platform level;
  • does not affect the technical limitations of the network infrastructure or service processors. If you assign the same IP address to different servers via BILLmanager (due to the enabled option), but the handler (for example, VMmanager 6) detects a conflict in the platform network that connects via the handler, then:
    • the handler will return an error;
    • the virtual server may not start or may not work correctly.

Setting up the option

To allow the use of a single private IP address in multiple services:

  1. Go to the Tariff plans section → select a tariff plan → click the Options button.
  2. Select the Private IPv4 addresses add-on → Edit. If the add-on has not been created, click Add.
  3. In the Main settings block, find the Ignore IP address uniqueness option.
  4. Check or uncheck the box according to the tariff requirements.
  5. Click Ok to save the changes.

Diagnostics

If the “Ignore IP address uniqueness” option is enabled, but you are unable to assign the same private IP address to multiple services, make sure that the conflicting address in the new service is private. Public addresses must be unique.
